The Medway Business Awards Dinner was on Friday night (20 November 2009) at Priestfield Stadium. I was proud to be one of the judges of the awards this year, especially as it was celebrating its 25th anniversary.
As mentioned in my earlier blog, it was no mean feat for Tim Levey of Reeves + Neylan, Clive Morris of Lloyds Bank and myself to get the original applicants down to 12 finalists. We didn’t quite have handbags at dawn but once we’d been out to visit all 12 finalists and seen their operations, it was slightly trickier to reach agreement on the ultimate winners.
I would like to congratulate the 12 businesses who made it to the final and hope they put to good use the PR value they should manage to obtain from singing their own praises – come on, boast about your award or certificate!
The evening itself went without a hitch, presented by Geoff Clark, and hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves. I for one was feeling a tad delicate the next day!
The awards this year have revealed some talented people in Medway who are running successful businesses, despite the current economic doom and gloom, and long may they continue. Many congratulations to the overall winner, Passmores Portable Buildings, who are celebrating their centenary this year, a worthy winner committed to Medway.
This part of Kent clearly has a lot to offer with skills and expertise across a wide range of sectors, which the names of some of our awards reflected – the Q Award, the Light Bulb Moment and Medway’s Best Kept Secret! I hope that as judges we have as tough a time next year in determining the winners. I would encourage all qualifying businesses to apply for next year’s awards. Help us try and raise the profile of Medway as somewhere that can be proud of its business achievements.
