Financial Planning for Women

I am sure that, like me, you have read many articles in the press recently about equality for women and minority groups and it is easy to see how people in these groups could feel discouraged from taking any steps to plan for their future.

We women, for example, are not earning as much as men, however this is not a reason to ignore the need to think about saving for retirement or other specific lifetime goals.  The fact that inequality exists makes planning even more important, to ensure that we have the opportunity to achieve what we want.

Women can no longer rely on their husbands to provide for them in retirement as the cost of pensions has increased considerably, company pension schemes are no longer what they used to be and sadly, marriages are regularly ending in divorce with ex-spouses going their separate ways, never to be seen again.   Those of us that are not married may face difficulties with covering the family finances, particularly trying to juggle work and family commitments.  Why worry about something you can’t do anything about?

Financial independence may be achievable but you need to face the situation head on and do something about it.  Times are tough at the moment, however a little bit put away regularly, in the right kind of investment can mount up over a long period.  You will thank yourself in years to come if you simply take the time to talk to someone about your situation and finding out your options.
