Explanation of the law behind the new Legacy10 Campaign

On the 23 March 2011, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced a new inheritance tax benefit to those who, in their Will, leave 10% of their net estate to charity. By leaving 10% of your net estate to one or more charities the remaining taxable estate benefits from a reduced rate of tax (36%) rather than the standard rate (40%). This act of generosity from the government comes with some stipulations, but it could represent a significant tax saving to those who have to pay inheritance tax.
