Furley Page had a stand at the France Show, Earls Court, from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 January 2009. We were exhibiting our legal and financial services for those people looking to buy, or who already own, a property in France.
The event received just over 23,000 visitors, who came to see various attractions such as Jean-Christophe Novelli and his cookery demonstrations, showgirls from the Moulin Rouge, pétanque games and of course to sample wines, cheese, chocolate and other delights from France!
For those visitors who came with an interest in French property, they had a wealth of information at their fingertips in the French Property section of the exhibition, mainly from estate agents, legal advisers, financial advisers, and currency exchange providers.
We met many people who are looking to buy a property in France either this year or in the near future. Many are considering a permanent move to France. Amongst the most popular destinations are the Limousin, Dordogne and Languedoc-Roussillon regions.
As well as looking for hints on how to go about buying a property in France, many of those people we spoke to were aware of the need to look at the structure of their Wills and the application of French succession law when owning a property in France because the laws in France are so different from English law. We stressed the importance of taking advice on these issues at the time of purchase to maximise their estate planning options.
A number of people were concerned about the current Euro exchange rate and Bank Base Rate and the effect that it will have on their savings and pensions if they move to France. Many who move to France will be dependent on income from their savings and investments to live. We were able to explain how a portfolio could be set up to provide a good income in these difficult times. In addition some were not aware that they could have their pensions transferred to Euro-based funds.
The France Show is an annual event, taking place in January. It is a wonderful opportunity to sample some delights of France, but it is also a highly useful event to attend for those looking to buy in France.
