As part of its policy to attract high-calibre professionals to its specialist departments, leading south east law firm Furley Page has appointed bilingual employment lawyer Amanda Okill.
Amanda, who lives in Maidstone, comes to Furley Page from a background of a major regional law firm so is very familiar with local businesses.
She will advise on cases of unfair dismissal and discrimination alongside general employment law and issues such as compromise agreements, restrictive covenants, contracts, policies and handbooks.
She commented: “It’s a great opportunity for me to be part of this respected team and I look forward to the challenge of working with its many and varied clients, the majority of whom are employers.”
Following a High School education in South Africa, Amanda graduated from the University of Cape Town with a general degree. She then moved to France, learning the language in order to teach English in Paris before returning to the UK where she gained a degree in French and English law at the University of Kent. During her degree course she spent time studying in Bordeaux.
Andrew Masters, head of employment at Furley Page – recommended in The Legal 500 and Chambers - said: “Amanda is joining Furley Page at a time of development and expansion and her skills will be a tremendous asset to the employment team’s strength and diversity.”
In her leisure time, Amanda, who is a member of the Law Society and the Employment Lawyers Association, enjoys diving – she has a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) advanced licence; has recently completed an evening travel-writing course and is currently taking part in evening art classes near her home.
