Furley Page Appoints High Flyer Legal Consultant

12 October 2007

As part of its policy to attract high-calibre professionals to its specialist departments, leading south east law firm Furley Page has appointed Gary Marshall as a consultant to its dispute resolution team.

Gary, 49, joins the team – recommended by The Legal 500 - from a background of dispute resolution both in the UK and internationally. He has spent 23 years working as a partner in law firms in the City and Hong Kong in the field of insurance litigation and has run his own specialist insurance dispute resolution practice in London.

Experienced in resolving disputes at all levels of complexity and size, he has represented clients (mainly ‘household’ names) across the globe with jurisdictions in Japan, Hong Kong, USA, Turkey and various European Union countries. Recently, he played a central role overseas in major contractual oil pipeline disputes.

Gary, who will make his base at the Canterbury and Chatham offices, said: “I was attracted to Furley Page’s pre-eminence and reputation in the south east and the recent opening of its state-of-the-art Thames Gateway office in Chatham highlights its leading position in the region.”

Peter Hawkes, senior partner and head of dispute resolution at Furley Page, added: “We are very happy to welcome Gary to the firm. His extensive experience in the field of dispute resolution will strengthen our team and offer us the opportunity to expand our activities into new areas of work.”

Gary lives near Canterbury. An ex-BETHS Grammar and University of Kent student, he is a member of the International Chamber of Commerce, The Chartered Insurance Institute, Institute of Risk Management and BILA (British Insurance Law Association). He takes a keen interest in international affairs and also enjoys hiking, cycling, classical music, jazz, and dining clubs.
