Furley Page Launches New Commercial Property Law Seminars

28 June 2007

Leading south east law firm Furley Page is launching a new initiative in July when it presents two major seminars on commercial property law in conjunction with Kent Invicta Chamber.

Already respected in the profession for its quality training seminars and workshops, the firm is co-hosting the seminars with international property consultants Strutt and Parker, and SWAT Archaeology (Swale and Thames Archaeological Survey Company) – one of Kent’s foremost archaeological practices.

Andrew Gough, a partner in the commercial property team at Furley Page, said: “This is an exciting new venture for the firm. The seminars are aimed at everyone with an interest in land and property development and will give important insights into two significant areas of commercial property law – the advantages of securing land in the future without paying for it now, and the impact of archaeological surveys and environmental issues on development.

“We are delighted the chamber is partnering these workshops which are open to members and non-members throughout Kent. “

The workshops, at the Marriott Tudor Park Hotel and Country Club, Maidstone, run from 8am to 11.30am

Getting Something for Nothing – Wednesday July 4. Andrew is joined by a development consultancy team from Strutt and Parker which includes Tim Mitford-Slade – a chartered planning and development surveyor. They will be looking at options and rights, rights of first refusal, development claw backs and planning gain supplement (what amounts to a new tax which the government is expected to introduce in 2009). The seminar is aimed at a wide audience including residential developers and their professional advisors.

Dig It – Wednesday July 8. Andrew is joined by archaeologist Dr Paul Wilkinson of SWAT Archaeology. The seminar will explain how archaeological surveys fit with the planning process. For example, it is not common knowledge that most developments around Canterbury and Kent must have an archaeological check before any work can begin.

Andrew Gough specialises in commercial property, environmental and planning law at Furley Page. He has a wide-ranging portfolio of clients acting for small, medium and plc international organisations. His particular interest is property development and issues arising from planning and environmental.

Tim Mitford-Slade specialises in residential-led development consultancy and brokerage for Strutt and Parker. He also heads up the valuation team in Kent and acts for a wide range of national and international clients including banks, developers and charities.

Dr Paul Wilkinson runs SWAT Archaeology and also the Kent Archaeological Field School, training the next generation of archaeologists. His clients range from large multi-national construction companies to the man in the street who wants to build an extension to his family home. Paul is a member of the Institute of Archaeologists which sets standards in today’s complex development issues.

Seminar costs, which include breakfast and VAT, are £30 to Kent Invicta Chamber members and £40 to non-members. Bookings can be made by calling the chamber on 01233 503838 or online at www.kentinvictachamber.co.uk.
