Leading regional law firm Furley Page is opening a London office in January 2009. Its new base is in the world’s leading insurance centre in the Lloyd’s of London building.
The move marks a significant new phase in the history of the firm – recommended by independent legal guides Chambers UK and the Legal 500 – which was established nearly three centuries ago.
Headed up by Furley Page’s internationally respected dispute resolution consultant, Gary Marshall, the new operation will develop specialist insurance work - advising both domestic and overseas insurers, intermediaries, brokers and risk managers in litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution as well as in areas of non-contentious insurance business such as captive insurance.
Gary said: “Although we are in challenging times I see the current changes in the global economy as a springboard for creating opportunities – providing they are approached with vision and not ‘short-termism’. This applies to legal markets as well as business areas.
“With litigation on the increase worldwide we are well placed to help clients protect their position - particularly with our very competitive fees - and the state of the art building provides us with the perfect location and the facilities to serve those clients.”
Peter Hawkes, senior partner at Furley Page, said: “With Furley Page’s already strong reputation in Kent and the south east, this is an exciting development for the firm. Gary’s extensive experience within the industry and his understanding of his clients’ needs will ensure he forges long-term relationships. “
Prior to joining Furley Page last year, Gary spent 23 years working as a partner in law firms in the City and Hong Kong in the field of insurance litigation and ran his own specialist insurance dispute resolution practice in London. He has represented clients, mainly household names, across the globe including the UK, Japan, Hong Kong, China (PRC), the USA, Taiwan, Sweden and Gibraltar.
