The 28-mile Miners Way – a walking and cycling trail sponsored by leading south east law firm Furley Page Solicitors and commemorating Kent’s celebrated mining heritage - opens to the public this Sunday (April 1) in Aylsham.
Part of the Coalfield Heritage Initiative Kent (CHIK) led by Dover Museum and the White Cliffs Countryside Project, the trail features guided walks and information panels to lead users round the former coalfield.
Neille Ryan, partner at Furley Page, said: “We are privileged to play a role in the CHIK mission to record and preserve Kent’s famous mining heritage through a digital archive of photographs, documents, stories, video clips and recordings. The archive – gathered from mining communities in Aylsham, Elvington, Hersden and Mill Hill – will ensure this hugely important industrial and social era and the spirit that drove it are never forgotten.”
The Miners Way opening ceremony is at the Aylsham Community Project in Ackholt Road at 10am.
