Furley Page Supports Free Musical Concerts

04 October 2007

One of the highlights of Kent’s musical calendar gets off on a high note next month – thanks to sponsorship by leading south east law firm Furley Page.

The firm is sponsoring a free lunchtime concert series at the Gulbenkian Theatre, University of Kent. Open to everyone, the concerts start at 1.10pm and finish with a ‘give what you can’ collection.

Dubbed ‘easily the classiest brass ensemble in Britain’ by BBC Music Magazine, Onyx Brass opens the series on October 8. The five musicians have dominated the international brass chamber music world since 1993, performing across Europe and the US to huge critical acclaim. Their repertoire has broad appeal, ranging from original composition to arrangements of religious music.

Other concerts include:

November 12 – award-winning virtuoso performers Adam Walker (flute) and Sally Pryce (harp) of the Young Concert Artists Trust. Adam was a BBC Young Musician finalist in 2004, since when he has inspired critical acclaim for his musicianship. Sally has recently made a very successful Wigmore Hall debut with the Sally Pryce Ensemble. In 2008 they make their debut with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra at the Wigmore Hall.

December 3 – Latin American group Quimantu – who have brought audiences to their feet across the globe - set the mood for the festive season, playing a range of traditional instruments from South America, Europe and Africa.

Peter Hawkes, senior partner at Furley Page, said: “The firm has a strong tradition of supporting music in Kent and we are very pleased, once again, to sponsor this excellent free concert series featuring some exciting musicians.

“What makes these events so special is that they are accessible to everyone. Just turn up on the day to hear some great music - there’s no need to book.”
