Keeping It In The Family

01 September 2009

A Kent property lawyer who specialises in rural matters and issues affecting farmers is president of this year’s East Kent Ploughing Match – the 65th - on September 30.

Christopher Wacher, partner and head of property and estates at leading regional law firm Furley Page, will welcome this highlight of the local community calendar to his family farm - Merton Farm, Nackington, near Canterbury.

Christopher comments: “The ploughing match is a highly competitive event for those in the agricultural world and a great day out for the public – particularly the local schools – who have a chance to enjoy rural activities.”

Merton Farm has been in the Wacher family since the 19th century but is now run by AC Hulme and Sons as part of their large and highly respected family farming business.

Previous generations of Christopher’s family have farmed in east Kent since the 18th century. Christopher himself specialises mainly in property law – often rural property and land development option schemes, acting for landowners and developers.

Furley Page, recommended by independent legal guide The Legal 500 for advising on agricultural and estate matters, has established its reputation over many generations. It can trace its ancestry and connections with the local community back to the 18th century.
