Aspirational young Kent solicitor Melissa Edmond is making her mark on the legal world. Chosen by leading regional law firm Furley Page to join its high-profile employment team, she’s now one of the presenters of the firm’s November employment seminars*.
Melissa, 28, from Canterbury, did her formal training with Furley Page, showing such promise in tackling employment issues that she was invited to stay permanently!
Based at Canterbury with the employment team – singled out by independent legal guides Chambers UK and The Legal Guide, she advises employers and employees on wide-ranging matters including disputes and discrimination claims involving tribunals.
Melissa, who says she chose employment law because she loves the challenge of ‘the mix’, has always had a taste for adventure. She took time out to travel extensively, highlights of which included sky diving and scuba diving in Australia and climbing Mount Kinabalu in Borneo. She also back-packed her way round South America, central America, New Zealand, south east Asia and India.
At University College London, where she achieved a 2:1 BA (Hons) in history, she worked in theatre at UCL Bloomsbury. She then did her postgraduate diploma in law and the legal practice course at Nottingham Law School, gaining a commendation in both.
Melissa enjoys running, swimming and, time permitting, globe-trotting as leisure activities.
Andrew Masters, partner and head of employment, said: “Only high achievers from our trainee intake make it through to the final selection. The employment team is expanding and Melissa is a huge asset.”
