During Euro 2004, Furley Page Solicitors is urging Kent employers to back England to lift the European Championship trophy, by allowing their staff to follow England’s progress.
Unauthorised staff absenteeism invariably increases during a major football tournament, and Furley Page is advising companies to positively manage the situation by showing flexibility and allowing employees to leave early to watch the games.
Andrew Masters, a Partner in the Employment Team at Furley Page, said: “One of the best ways to avoid unauthorised absences is to show the games live in the workplace, or arrange flexi time, or better still to throw a party to support the squad and develop internal team spirit.
“Companies that recognise the issue and are pro-active about addressing it are going to benefit in the long term and maybe engender the same spirit as personified by Beckham, Gerrard and Owen in the England squad”.
Andrew specialises in most aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law and related HR issues.
