Licensees Urged To Act Quickly To Safeguard Their Businesses

01 June 2005

Licensees who missed the August 6 deadline to apply for new-style licences are being urged to act quickly to safeguard their businesses. The second opportunity to obtain a new licence expires on 24th November.

David Hall – head of licensing at Kent law firm Furley Page – says that licensees must have their new licenses granted by November 24 in order to sell alcohol after that date.

He added: “To make the application they will need plans of their premises and they will have to advertise their applications in the local paper. They must also apply for personal licenses for themselves and for members of their staff by the same date. A criminal records bureau check may be required for the personal licenses. As this can be a time consuming procedure, action must be taken now to get things underway”.
