Lord Lieutenant of Kent Allan Willett CMG officially opened prestigious new offices for leading south east law firm Furley Page LLP at one of the most historic parts of the Thames Gateway region.
The ceremony took place at the 18th century Clocktower building at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham, for invited guests including civic dignitaries and the business community. Mr Willett was greeted by Furley Page’s senior partner Peter Hawkes and head of the Chatham office James Pigott.
In his speech on November 7, Mr Willett said: “As the former and founding chairman of SEEDA (South East England Development Agency) it is most rewarding to see the planning I was involved in, the regeneration and further prosperity of this key area of the south east, coming to fruition.”
He added: “The challenges and opportunities these changes bring create new opportunities for business expansion and inward investment. I commend the firm’s forward-thinking in taking this step forward.”
Peter Hawkes said: “We were honoured to have the Lord Lieutenant officially open our new offices. This marks a significant new phase in the firm’s history, which runs into nearly three centuries, is indicative of the area’s growth potential and Furley Page’s rapid expansion plans. Our presence in Chatham means we can engage in local issues which will shape the structure of north Kent and the Thames Gateway over the next 10 -15 years. We are already working closely with business organisations and business partners in the area.”
Furley Page, sponsors of the Medway Boat Race, began business at the Clocktower in May with a team of lawyers providing specialist advice to business clients seeking City level expertise but without the London price tag. Indeed, the firm’s expertise is recommended by independent legal sources Chambers UK and the Legal 500.
Partner James Pigott heads up the team which specialises in all aspects of business services including sales and acquisitions, commercial property, employment, insolvency and restructuring, debt recovery, intellectual property, contract advice, partnerships and LLPs, dispute resolution, environmental law, health and safety, and competition law.
Well respected in the profession for quality training seminars and workshops, Furley Page is planning a new series of events which will fully utilise the exceptional lecture and exhibition facilities available at the Clocktower.
Furley Page was established 280 years ago. It also has offices in Canterbury and Whitstable offering legal services across 12 practice areas in commercial and private client law.
