One Stop Shop For Businesses And Individuals Exposed To Fraud

15 February 2010

Award-winning accountants Reeves+Neylan have teamed up with leading regional law firm Furley Page and Fraud Consultants UK Ltd to offer a one-stop shop for businesses and individuals exposed to fraudulent activity.

The aim of the venture is to give them specialist advice under one roof to help them pursue a civil or criminal prosecution or an internal resolution.

Free fraud clinics* are being held at Reeves+Neylan’s Canterbury offices – the next one is on February 23 - where companies can meet the team behind the trial initiative:  Reeves+Neylan’s forensic partner Richard Heasman; David Hall – dispute resolution partner at Furley Page, and fraud consultant Darren Jones – managing director of Fraud Consultants UK Ltd.

An estimated £30 billion is lost to fraud each year in the UK and lack of resources means that the police can only investigate the criminal aspect in a small percentage of cases, with recovery a very low possibility.

Darren Jones is a former Kent Police fraud squad officer with more than 20 years experience investigating high profile cases involving identity theft, company fraud, employee theft and offences under the Fraud Act 2006.

He said: “Clients who attended the first fraud clinic held earlier this month found the ‘one stop shop’ element very positive and productive and told us that it was a welcome alternative to having to source separate accountants, solicitors and investigator.”

Richard Heasman of Reeves+Neylan commented: “We believe this initiative offers a unique service for a market that is largely un-serviced at present. Reeves+Neylan bring forensic expertise from a large and trusted brand and will use accounting evidence to recover lost monies and secure a conviction.”

David Hall said: “Using our commercial and property litigation solicitors, Furley Page can act swiftly for fraud victims to recover money and property taken by the fraudster. We can issue court proceedings - not only to recover the lost assets but also to prevent assets being removed and confidential information being used by ex-employees.”

To book a place at the next fraud clinic on February 23, 2010 call Darren Jones on 01843 600960 or email darren.jones@fraudconsultant.co.uk

Notes to editors

*Fraud cases dealt with at the first clinic earlier this month included an accountant abusing his position and making unauthorised returns to Companies House, causing loss to the company and its director; a construction company consistently failing to pay its sub-contractors final payments agreed in their contracts, and a company whose managing director had siphoned off money from customers to his personal bank account and also paid his personal expenses out of the company’s account.

Fraud Consultants UK Ltd offers professional advice on fraud prevention and can investigate, collaborate and formulate a client’s case in preparation for either a civil or criminal prosecution or for an internal resolution. Darren Jones is an experienced investigator with more than 20 years police service with the Essex, Metropolitan and Kent police services. He has been awarded commendations for his investigative work.
