The BBC Panorama programme Who Took My Pension? – an investigation into how greedy finance companies are taking huge commission from their clients - has been slammed as “lazy and selective journalism” by Kent financial advisor Simon Ludden.
Simon, financial planning manager at leading regional law firm Furley Page, said: “The subject of retirement planning is far too important to be left to journalists whose only intention is to make sensational TV programmes.
“Of course there is an issue here. Clearly some advisors are taking unreasonable levels of commission which aren’t sustainable in the current climate but many people will now be questioning whether it’s worth saving money in a pension scheme at all.
“Like any product, some pensions are better than others. What responsible journalism should be doing is getting the right balance and pointing people to the best value and best investment performance rather than tarring the whole industry with the same brush.”
Simon’s advice? Find a fee-based independent financial advisor who will guide you through the complex pensions issue and help you get the best possible deal.
