An award-winning young solicitor who specialises in family law has been appointed by one of the south east’s leading solicitors Furley Page.
Sally Barter, 32, joins the firm’s family law team - based in Canterbury – with the advantage of having practised as a litigation clerk and a trainee solicitor for five years before qualifying.
Sally, of Ash, will advise clients on a range of issues including divorce, financial disputes, children’s issues, domestic violence and cohabitation disputes.
She commented: “Because family law work revolves around stressful and disruptive phases in people’s lives, both emotionally and financially, I strive to maintain as much stability as possible for all concerned – particularly the children - and encourage clients to adopt a conciliatory approach.”
Sally graduated from the University of London with a 2:1 in German with French. She was awarded a post-graduate diploma in law in 2002 at the BPP Law School, London and passed a Legal Practice Course with distinction at Guildford’s College of Law in 2007 when she won the Surrey Resolution Family Law Prize for gaining the highest mark – 92% - in the family law elective.
Before joining Furley Page she worked in the City for a year with a view to gaining as much business experience as possible in various sectors. In 2003 she joined a firm of Thanet solicitors as a litigation clerk before starting her training contract two years later.
Anne Blenkinsop, partner in the family law team, said: “The skills that Sally brings to the team and her practical approach to sensitive client issues are a tremendous asset to the firm.”
Married with two young children, Sally is fluent in German and also speaks French.
