A high-flying lawyer who specialises in issues facing elderly and vulnerable people has been made a partner of leading regional law firm Furley Page.
Nicola Rostron, who heads up the elderly and vulnerable client team, has even learnt British Sign Language (BSL) so she can speak directly to clients with hearing difficulties. She has also worked with the Macular Disease Society in order to be aware of the problems of the partially sighted or deaf.
Forty two year old Nicola, of Sittingbourne, Kent, deals with a variety of needs associated with older or vulnerable clients (the mentally handicapped, for example, or people traumatised by an accident) including powers of attorney, Wills, and Court of Protection issues.
She is a member of Solicitors for the Elderly - a national organisation of lawyers committed to providing independent legal advice for older people, their families and carers - and The Probate Section of The Law Society. She is also a student member of STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).
“Because the needs of the elderly client in general are so specific, the law relating to issues concerning them is complicated and often daunting, and anxiety caused by the unknown is a common problem,” says Nicola who makes home, hospital and hospice visits if a client isn’t able to meet at any of the Furley Page offices.
Harvey Barrett, partner and head of the private client team, said: “It is pleasing to be able to announce positive news during challenging economic times. Nicola is an exceptional lawyer and this appointment reflects the strength and quality of our private client team and its services to elderly and vulnerable people. Eighty somethings are now the fastest growing age group.
“It also helps us build on our established reputation in the south east.”
