Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures

If allegations have been made against you, or you are going through a disciplinary process, even if you do not have a detailed disciplinary procedure at work, there are certain steps that your employer must take. Likewise, if you have a grievance with your employer you must follow the minimum statutory procedures. You need to understand what the procedures are and what your rights and obligations are within them.

Your employer’s disciplinary and grievance procedures, and other policies, may be found in:

  • Your employment contract
  • Your company handbook
  • Your company’s intranet site

In addition the ACAS (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) Code of Practice sets out the basic procedure you and your employer should follow during disciplinary and grievance processes.

Furley Page Employment Law Team can advise you how to take, or defend, action to protect your interests, or simply provide information about your rights.
