Advance Decisions or Living Wills

An Advance Decision to refuse medical treatment or a ‘Living Will’ as it is often referred to is a document that exists during your lifetime.

It allows you to set out what medical treatment you would like to refuse in the event of a given situation.

The Mental Capacity Act 2005 sets out the rules regarding these documents and must be complied with fully in order for the document to be effective.

For a more detailed explanation of Advance Decisions and their interaction with Personal Welfare and Lasting Powers of Attorney please contact a member of our Older or Vulnerable Client Services team.
