A Night to Shine charity fundraiser set to illuminate east Kent

11th September 2018

The Furley Page Foundation is once again sponsoring the Pilgrims Hospices’ annual ‘Night to Shine’ event, which aims to raise vital funds for local hospice care.

A Night to Shine will bring together people of all ages across east Kent in sponsored walks of three- or six-miles while dressed in event-branded tee shirts and carrying paper lanterns which can be decorated in advance and carried in memory of a loved one.

For the second year running, the event will be sponsored by The Furley Page Foundation, a registered charity created to manage all social responsibility programmes of leading Kent law firm Furley Page.

Members of the Furley Page team will be participating in the event, taking part in the six-mile course in Canterbury.

Events will take place simultaneously in Canterbury, Ashford and Broadstairs on Saturday, September 22 at 7pm (registration from 5:30pm).

The three- or six-mile Night to Shine walks will start from the following venues:

  • Canterbury: Westgate Hall, Westgate Hall Road, Canterbury CT1 2BT
  • Ashford: Julie Rose Stadium, Willesborough Road, TN24 9QX
  • Broadstairs: Holy Trinity, Nelson Place, Broadstairs CT10 1HQ.

Furley Page Foundation Trustee Aaron Spencer, a Partner at Furley Page, said: “The Pilgrims Hospices is east Kent’s largest hospice charity and provides vital support for many people facing incurable illness.

“However, the charity relies on the generosity of the public to fund its services, and the Night to Shine events generate valuable income while also bringing the community together and giving people the chance to remember their loved ones in a fun, supportive environment.

“We’re delighted to be a part of A Night to Shine again this year and do our bit to help raise funds for such a worthy cause. We’d urge anyone who can get involved in this years’ sponsored walks to do so and enjoy a fantastic and memorable evening.”

Leila Ilkhan, Community Fundraising Manager at Pilgrims Hospices, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Furley Page for continuing to support the work of Pilgrims Hospices and for generously coming on board as a sponsor of our second A Night to Shine on Saturday 22 September. This donation helps us to cover the costs of the event allowing more money raised on the night to go towards the care of our patients and their families across east Kent.

“This year will be bigger and brighter than before. Our supporters will be welcomed by a party atmosphere with music, entertainment and more, before taking in the spectacular views of Canterbury, Ashford and Broadstairs amid a sea of lantern light. A Night to Shine raised over £75,000 last year with our walkers combining to cover the distance of London to Tokyo!”

Notes to editors

Pilgrims Hospices

Pilgrims Hospices provides palliative care for adults with a range of illnesses that cannot be cured. Care is provided from sites in Canterbury, Ashford and Thanet, in patients' homes and via community programmes. Care is also extended to families and carers. To keep delivering care to those that need it the most, Pilgrims has to raise £11.5 million each year. The majority of this comes from the local community, so fundraising is critical, while 80p in every pound raised goes directly on patient care. https://www.pilgrimshospices.org/
