Gordon Banks, England’s World Cup winning goalkeeper, was the special guest at the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce annual dinner.
The event was sponsored by Furley Page Solicitors, and two football-mad partners in the law firm were thrilled to hear the England hero’s memories of lifting the 1966 World Cup. Partner and employment team leader Andrew Masters said: “It was a fantastic evening. Gordon was a real gentleman and entertained us all with his football tales.”
Partner Aaron Spencer said: “Everyone was keen to meet him and to hear first-hand about his amazing England career. Gordon was a great hit with the audience.”
The dinner, at the Ashford International Hotel, was staged on July 8, the evening of the first World Cup semi-final between Brazil and Germany. “Germany’s performance in demolishing the hosts 7-1 was amazing. Brazil could have done with Banksy in goal I think,” added Andrew.
Also enjoying the football banter were Furley Page’s Andrew Gough, George Crofton-Martin, Neille Ryan and Simon Ludden, together with their guests.
