French income tax: The 2024 tax return for 2023 income kicks off on 11 April 2024

You can’t say you didn’t know!

As it does every year, the DGFiP (Direction générale des finances publiques)* has divided France into three zones, with deadlines for filing tax returns.

Here’s the breakdown this year:

  • Departments 1 to 19 and for non-residents: the deadline for filing is Thursday 23 May 2024.
  • Departments 2A to 54 (including Corsica): deadline Thursday 30 May 2024.
  • Departments 55 to 95 and the overseas departments: deadline set at Thursday 6 June 2024.

Do I have to file a tax return?

You are required to file an income tax return if you have received an income from a French source that is taxable in France during the year 2023.

French-source income includes real estate income, income from professional activities carried out in France, whether as a salaried employee or not, capital gains, etc., as well as pensions when the pension fund is established in France.

If you’re not sure whether you need to complete a tax return this year, if you need help completing your tax return, or more generally if you have a question about French taxation, don’t hesitate to contact our French department, who will be happy to assist you.
