Harvey joined Furley Page in 1989 specifically to run the Trusts and Estates Team.  Prior to that he graduated from the University of Exeter with a degree in Economics before undertaking his Law Society exams (Parts 1 and 2) at the College of Law in London and Guildford, respectively.

Harvey’s  training was undertaken in a West End London firm with whom he qualified in 1979.  With that firm he became a partner in 1982.

In 1986 Harvey relocated (with his family) to Bermuda, under a fixed term contract, to gain intensive exposure to the creation and operation of trusts before returning to England in 1989 to practice in Furley Page with whom he became a partner in the same year.

Since 1989 Harvey has dedicated his professional life to building up the Private Client, Trusts and Estates Team and was instrumental in forging a Financial Services Department within the Private Client Team.  The Financial Services Department has since been successfully hived off but still serves the private clients of Furley Page.

Harvey has also been keen to expand the provision of Private Client services and this has lead to the creation of discrete service centres within the team, these include trustee and tax compliance, elderly and vulnerable client, trust and estate planning, Wills and probate and French property and estates.

Harvey is happy to see clients at Canterbury or our London office by appointment.

The ‘extremely knowledgeable and client-focused’ team at Furley Page Solicitors regularly advises on matters relating to the Inheritance Act, Court of Protection applications and trust management. High-value estate administration is a key area of the practice, which is also adept at handling international private client matters involving offshore assets and non-domiciled tax issues. The ‘professional and empathetic’ Harvey Barrett leads the team, which includes solicitor Alexandra Gordon, who ‘is knowledgeable, engaging and is able to put across information in an easily digestible manner’. Also recommended are senior solicitor Nicola Hopper (who ‘has a calm and considered approach’), Aaron Spencer, vulnerable client head Nicola August and Sarah Bogard.
