Kent lawyer welcomes landmark decision on pre-nups

25 November 2010

Pre-nups have hit the headlines again with the landmark decision to raise their status in the eyes of the law – a big step forward says Kent family lawyer Susi Gillespie.

Susi, a member of the family law team at leading regional law firm Furley Page, said: “The Supreme Court’s ruling in the recent high profile Radmacher case means that a pre-nuptial agreement can carry decisive and compelling weight. From now on they will be just as enforceable as separation agreements and post-nuptial agreements – and subject to the same safeguards.

“The recent announcement of the forthcoming wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is bound to give the institution of marriage a boost. It’s only for us to speculate whether the royal couple will be discussing a prenup in the run up to the big day but they are definitely the best possible protection for wealthier people or those getting married for the second time.”
