Appointment heralds drive to build business in key sector

A highly regarded insolvency solicitor has joined top law firm Furley Page to help build its reputation as the region’s leading experts in what is a very specialised field.

As the new head of the rapidly-expanding insolvency and debt recovery team, solicitor Richard Ludlow will oversee and manage the growth of Furley Page’s work in this area.

He will advise clients across Kent, the South East and London on a range of issues concerning insolvency, debt recovery and also personal bankruptcy.

Richard, aged 37, has joined Furley Page from the Treasury Solicitors Office where he was involved in the investigation of company directors and winding up their companies, as well as investigating the actions of bankrupts and pursuing bankruptcy restriction orders.

Prior to the Treasury, he worked in the Public Interest Unit at the Insolvency Service in London. Before taking up that position, Richard worked for a number of years in private practice with two large regional firms in Kent and Sussex.

He said: “I have advised clients at all levels of claims, from small claims in the local county court before a deputy district judge all the way up to hearings before a registrar in the companies court at the High Court in London, where a director was facing disqualification proceedings because he was responsible for a company that went into liquidation after trading for two years with unpaid VAT in excess of £35 million.”

Susan Jennings, partner and head of Furley Page’s corporate team, said: “Richard believes in providing clients with practical and uncomplicated advice in a straightforward language that they can understand. As a result of his extensive experience he has a strong commercial focus, coupled with a proactive approach. Consequently Richard is able to provide his clients with the best available options in a quick and cost effective method.”

Peter Hawkes, senior partner and head of dispute resolution at Furley Page, said: “Insolvency is an extremely specialist area and thanks to Richard’s unrivalled background and expertise, we look forward to building on our reputation for delivering high quality insolvency and bankruptcy services to clients.”

Richard is married with two children and lives near Maidstone. He studied at the University of the West of England in Bristol, Leeds Metropolitan University and also at the College of Law in Guildford.
