28 May 2009
Two high-flyers at leading regional law firm Furley Page - recommended by Chambers UK and Legal 500 - have been promoted to partners.
The announcement follows the firm’s restructure of its private client, trusts and estates team into six sectors aimed at providing more wide-ranging specialist advice to its clients.
The new partners are 42 year old Nicola Rostron - who heads up the elderly and vulnerable client team, sharing her time between the Canterbury and Chatham offices - and Sarah Bogard, aged 32, who heads up the firm’s French property services and is based at Canterbury.
Nicola, of Sittingbourne, specialises in elderly client affairs, powers of attorney, Wills, and Court of Protection issues. She is a member of Solicitors for the Elderly - a national organisation of lawyers committed to providing independent legal advice for older people, their families and carers - and The Probate Section of The Law Society. She is also a student member of STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).
Some of Nicola’s clients – such as the blind or partially-sighted and the deaf and hard of hearing - have difficulty in communicating and she has learnt British Sign Language (BSL) so she can speak directly to them.
Sarah, of Chestfield, near Whitstable, is a chartered tax adviser and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. A fluent French speaker, she advises clients on all aspects of buying and selling properties in France as well as dealing with French Wills and succession planning, and advising on the administration of French estates. She liaises with French estate agents and notaires on behalf of clients, her French language skills helping to take away the strain and risk of dealing with a foreign language and documents.
Sarah has extensive experience in tax and estate planning and regularly gives seminars on all aspects of making Wills and the impact of new legislation affecting personal taxes.
Harvey Barrett, partner and head of the private client team, said: “It is pleasing to be able to announce positive news during challenging economic times. Nicola and Sarah are two exceptional lawyers and these appointments reflect the strength and quality of our private client team.
“Their considerable expertise and experience will help us drive the private client work forward in terms of range of service and will also help us build on our established reputation in the south east.”
